Hello, my name is Lorrie Covington and I am so excited to be part of the Fred Douglass Tribe as a fourth grade teacher.  I went back to college at age 50 to pursue my dream of becoming a teacher. I graduated in 2016 from Texas A&M Commerce and received a bachelor's degree in Interdisciplinary Studies - EC - 6. My teaching certifications are General Education EC - 6, ESL, Special Education and Math 7 - 12.  I chose to teach so I could impact the lives of young people through the learning process.
After graduating, I accepted a long term substitute position at Farmersville Intermediate, and subsequently taught three years at Farmersville High School teaching resource math and special education classes. I spent over 20 years working with children in some capacity before teaching. Teaching children is my passion, and I am looking forward to getting to know each of my students and their families.
I am new to the City of Jacksonville and Jacksonville ISD. I have moved here from a small town north of Dallas to be near my daughter and her family (mainly my grandbabies).  I consider myself fortunate to be a part of JISD, especially Fred Douglass Elementary. The Dual Language program here is exciting and innovative.   Jacksonville is a delightful place to live, and I look forward to becoming better acquainted with it. This school year is going to be filled with lots of new experiences and opportunities.
