News and Updates for 3-23-2015
This year’s clubs went way too fast, but our students had a blast. Our 4th year has been our best year yet. Our original plan was to continue with clubs through April, but our high school seniors have informed us that too many of them will be not be able to come to the clubs anymore because of all the commitments and activities they have here at the end of their senior year. This is understandable and we appreciate all the work and time they had with us and wish them all the best as they finish out their time at JISD and begin the next chapter in their lives. Therefore, it has been decided that the last day of clubs will be March 23rd. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause, but without the assistance of our high school seniors, proper supervision of the over 115 students in our clubs is not possible. We appreciate all your support this year and look forward to next year’s clubs. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact Mr. Alvarez at email@example.com.
Welcome to the web page for our After-School Clubs! We have been running our after school clubs since 2011 and each year the clubs get better and better.
At Fred Douglass Elementary we strongly believe that every single one of our children are intelligent and that they have gifts and talents of their own. Our after school clubs are meant to help them discover and enhance those talents and gifts. For that reason we offer are variety of clubs that tap into various aspects of their creativity and talents. Here are a few of the clubs we offer:

The after school clubs are organized by our counselor, Mr. Alvarez and every year 15-20 seniors from the Jacksonville High School volunteer 1.5 hours every Monday to help lead the clubs. Without their faithful assistance, we would not be able to offer these clubs. Their help is appreciated tremendously.
Our clubs meet every Monday that we are in school from the October to April from 2:45 to 3:45. This year's calendar of clubs is posted on the right side of this page.
Our after school clubs are made possible by the Family First Clinic Grant through the Jacksonville Education Foundation and by donations by parents of participating students. This money is used to buy equipment and materials as well as to create a scholarship fund for the participating seniors that meet certain criteria. Since starting the program in 2011 we have given away over $3,200 in scholarships to our JHS seniors.
