Mask Protocol

The new requirement for face coverings for elementary students is to better ensure our campuses stay open.  On the elementary level where face coverings have not been required, if a student is exposed to or in close contact with a positive case such as in a classroom setting, the entire class must be sent home and quarantined for 14 days.  If students have face coverings on, the quarantine is not required.  We have had four classes sent home that would not have been if students had been wearing face coverings.  The procedure to notify parents was followed for each of those cases.  If a student has health concerns with wearing a face covering, a note from a doctor will suffice.  Students will not be required to wear the masks during recess.   This requirement is not in any way tied to funding, but is a decision made to allow more students to stay in school and continue the instructional process on campus.  We understand how difficult this is for elementary students, and our goals remain keeping students and staff healthy and our campuses open.
